Shaquille O’Neal foots bill for five-year-old girl’s funeral Basketball giant Shaquille O’Neal showed his softer side when he footed the bill for a five-year-old girl’s funeral.

It is claimed that O’Neal then paid the bill for her funeral, which is estimated to be around $4,500.

Shaquille O’Neal fights boxing champ Oscar De La Hoya

Strapping 7ft 1in basketball giant Shaquille O’Neal found size doesn’t matter as he was beaten by 5ft 10in boxing legend Oscar De La Hoya in a classic David versus Goliath fight.

Shaq took on 10-time world champion De La Hoya in the ring in the latest challenge in his Shaq Vs TV series, where he competes against elite athletes at their own sports.

But his crack at the Goldenboy in a Las Vegas fight dubbed “The Mismatch of the Century” ended in a defeat on points – despite Shaq’s huge height and weight advantage.

Shaq, who weighed in at 325lbs, prepared for the fight with an intense training camp under the guidance of legendary trainer Freddie Roach.

He put on a decent display but could not find the knockout blow to see off battling De La Hoya, who tipped the scales at just under 160lbs.

Shaq ended the five-round fight on the canvas after De La Hoya’s cornerman and ex-world champ Bernard Hopkins playfully jumped on his back.

The rivals hugged after the judge’s unanimous verdict was announced.

De La Hoya saluted Shaq: “I think if I came out of retirement every other fight would be easy.”

Shaq had revealed before the fight: “I’m a big fan of Oscar because he is one of the best.”

Shaquille O’Neal cops gobful of chimpanzee cheek

Basketball legend Shaquille O’Neal may have fancy footwork on the court, but he wasn’t quick enough to dodge a monkey when it threw up on him during a family trip to the zoo.

The sporting ace said the chimp took him by surprise while he was visiting Los Angeles Zoo with his children.

“The lady told me these monkeys are very tricky – they’ll offer you stuff and don’t mess with them,” he told chat show host Jimmy Kimmel.

“But it was like a small monkey so I figured if it grabbed me, I could just smack it off.

“It was making this funny face and I went to reach for it, and someone said, ‘No, don’t, he has water in his mouth!’

“I said, ‘No, he’s just giving me an apple,’ but then he spat and it all landed on my shoulder. That night I was in the bathroom getting ready to take a shower and I thought, ‘Damn, I stink today!’

“Then I realised I’d had monkey vomit on my arm all day.”
