Celebs such as Rod Stewart stay looking good by pairing up with younger lover Celebs such as Rod Stewart, Michael Douglas and Ronnie Wood stay looking good by pairing up with a younger lover.

New research shows that the majority of people think they are 12 years younger than they actually are and it is therefore easier to get together with someone younger.

Those who see themselves as younger than they are therefore keep their brains sharper and have more successful careers and private lives, according to the new reports.

Michael Douglas, 65, is 25 years older than wife Catherine Zeta Jones, while Stewart, 65, is 27 years older than his wife Penny Lancaster.

Markus Schafer from Purdue University in Indiana said: “If you feel old beyond your chronological years, you will probably experience a lot of the downsides associated with ageing.

“But if you are older and maintain a sense of being younger, then that gives you an edge in maintaining a lot of the abilities you prize. Learning new technologies is one way people can continue to improve their cognitive abilities.”

Rod Stewart shocks chatshow host by making grab for his tackle Rod Stewart made a US chatshow host gasp in shock – by making a grab for his tackle.

Cheeky Rod suddenly reached into Conan O’Brien’s lap and gave him a playful squeeze while telling a story about groupies.

Flustered O’Brien jumped up from behind his desk and shouted out: “Whoa! What the hell was that? You ran way up there!”

But giggling Rod didn’t seem at all bothered and carried on with his story – moaning O’Brien had distracted him. He complained: “I’ve lost my thread now.”

And Rod even pretended to grab O’Brien again at the end of the show after he had performed.

O’Brien seemed surprised by Rod’s antics, but after regaining his composure, joked: “I’m still recovering from this whole invasion over here. I’ve not heard a word you said since then.”

Rod told him: “You’re a very good sport, I must say.”

The veteran singer also made a joke at the expense of his pal Elton John after O’Brien asked when he would do if he started losing his famous hair.

Rod said: “I would probably cut it all off or I would call up Elton John and see what weaver he goes to. No, that’s bang out of order. He’s my mate. His hair does look stunning close up, I will tell you. It’s been a good harvest!”

O’Brien, known for his quiff, superimposed his hair on a picture of Rod to see how it would look.

Rod Stewart: ‘I would have entered X Factor’ Crooner Rod Stewart has said he would have entered The X Factor when he was younger.

The 64-year-old singer said that he would follow the likes of Leona Lewis and Alexandra Burke and compete in the UK show.

He said to UK newspaper The Sun: “If I was desperate – and I was getting desperate because I’d been turned down by EMI – I may have done X Factor. But they probably wouldn’t have liked me, I was too rough and ready.

“I don’t know if I had the character or personality at 16/17 or maybe a bit later, 18/19. I had a bit of an edge, I looked different, same haircut mind.

“I haven’t watched it this year as I’ve been in the States but I know about these two guys in the tartan jackets. It’s a big circus now. You can’t knock it, people love it.”
