Freeman still suffering from 2008 car crash Oscar nominee Morgan Freeman still suffers the physical repercussions of a car accident that brought heartache to his life.

Freeman’s left hand was paralysed in a car accident a year-and-a-half ago in Mississippi. He had to be cut free from the vehicle using the jaws of life.

A woman who was in his passenger seat sued the actor, alleging negligence and a settlement was reached in the matter in 2009.

Nominated this year for best actor for his role as Nelson Mandela in Clint Eastwood’s Invictus, Freeman said he never fully healed after the crash. He told People: “I suffered nerve damage and it hasn’t gotten better. I can’t move it.”

Freeman, 72, said in Los Angeles: “If you don’t move your hand, it will swell up. Do you know you move your hand about a million times a day?”

Morgan Freeman believes there will be a third Batman movie Invictus star Morgan Freeman believes there will be a third Batman movie but it’s ‘not carved in stone’ that he will appear in it.

Freeman, 72, played the role of Lucius Fox in the two recent Batman movies – Batman Begins and The Dark Knight – and said he thinks there will be a third film.

He told BBC Radio One: “Well… I always say, now I’ve been asked this question a number of times, and I don’t think that Warner Brothers… the board of directors… the chairman or the president… or any of those people are stupid.

“Which means there’s going to be another Batman movie.”

Asked if he will be part of that movie, he said: “Now that’s not carved in stone. We’ll only know that when the script is written and the same guy’s writing the third script, if there is to be one.”

Princess, frog beat Eastwood’s Mandela film Clint Eastwood’s new movie has been beaten at the US box office by a cartoon starring a princess and a frog.

Invictus stars Morgan Freeman as former South African president Nelson Mandela and Matt Damon as rugby player Francois Pienaar.

The movie, directed by Eastwood, is based on the true story of how Mandela helped heal his apartheid-torn land through the white bastion of rugby and the sport’s 1995 world cup.

But the movie took just $9.1 million in its opening weekend, good enough for only third place.

The top spot went to the Disney cartoon The Princess and The Frog, which grossed an impressive $25 million.

In second place was Sandra Bullock’s The Blind Side, also based on a true story of how a family take in a homeless boy who goes on to become a huge NFL star.

The movie took $15.5 million, making its three-week gross $149.8 million.

Morgan Freeman talks about playing Mandela Morgan Freeman has told of reinventing Nelson Mandela for a film about the peacemaker’s appearance in the 1995 Rugby World Cup.

“We did a good job of reinventing and bringing him (Mandela) back,” said Freeman at the premiere of Invictus, which was directed by Clint Eastwood.

The World Cup took place in a South Africa recently freed from apartheid and Mandela used the tournament to bring blacks and whites together. In an iconic moment, he presented the trophy to captain Francois Piennar after the final at Ellis Park, wearing the South Africa jersey.

Of the film, Freeman said: “It’s about people, it’s about human interaction, it’s a story about South African history. I think it’s universal.”

Invictus’s premiere was attended by local celebrities, Mandela’s former wife Winnie Madikizela-Mandela, and their daughter Zinzi.

South African actor Patrick Mofokeng, who plays Mandela’s bodyguard in the film, said: “It was an awesome experience to have taken part in this movie. I don’t think there is any other person who would be able to play the role of Nelson Mandela other than Morgan Freeman. He is Mandela.”

Morgan Freeman settles car accident lawsuit

A lawsuit involving actor Morgan Freeman was settled.

Demaris Meyer settled with Freeman a lawsuit claiming damages after a serious car accident.

Gloria Allred, star attorney for Meyer, said: "Our only statement regarding this settlement is that Ms Meyer is pleased that the matter is resolved and the case is settled."

Meyer suffered multiple injuries, including broken bones, cuts and bruises, after she was a passenger in Freeman's car.

He was driving the vehicle on a Mississippi road in 2008 when he lost control of the car and flipped it.

Meyer filed suit in the US District Court for the Northern District of Oxford in Mississippi and alleged she had been unable to work since the accident. Meyer at the time was employed at a Fortune 500 company as an executive assistant.
