January Jones, 32, has come a long way from the South Dakota smalltown upbringing that saw her running barefoot in summer and coming home after dark.

The actress, who plays Betty Draper in the hit series Mad Men, revealed that at 18 she took a bus to New York to show “all those bitches in high school who said I wasn’t pretty enough”. Later, it was her former boyfriend, Ashton Kutcher, who needed some educating.

Dating her for three years, the now husband of Demi Moore told her she would not make it as an actress. “Actually, that helped me, I like a challenge,” said Jones.

Jones also dated the singer Josh Groban and was recently linked to an Oregon lawyer. She said: “He came with me to the Emmys, but he’s an old friend. Every time I make a plan for my life it gets ruined, so I don’t make plans any more. But maybe I should as I’m getting older and I really want to have a family.”

Right now, Jones is single. Although she left a Golden Globes after-party last month arm in arm with actor Jeremy Piven, she told the UK Telegraph Magazine: “I’m not dating anyone. It’s sad. Me and my dog are dating. He’s a three-year-old Yorkie poodle called Max and he goes everywhere with me.”

Ashton Kutcher is going global. During a visit to Moscow, the celebrity world’s most followed Twitterer has encouraged Russians to share ideas through social media websites.

The star of Valentine’s Day, who is married to Demi Moore, has more than 4.5 million followers on Twitter.

“More importantly than anything I write, it’s really about what you write on your blogs,” Kutcher said.

“That is the power of the social web. You don’t have to be a celebrity or sit on a podium to have a community that you can build, run an idea, a thought, a piece of leadership,” he told the Russians.

He was in Moscow with a US delegation to promote exchange of technology.

Kutcher was true to his word when he recently bounced back from the canning of his show, The Beautiful Life, to launch a web version for YouTube.

Valentine’s Day, a star-studded rom com, hit number one at the box office at the weekend.

Valentine’s Day had a sweet opening at the US box office this weekend.

Box Office Mojo reports that the female-oriented pastiche of love tales starring an all-star cast including Julia Roberts, Ashton Kutcher, Anne Hathaway, Bradley Cooper and Jessica Alba has sold an estimated $52.4million worth of tickets by close of business tonight.

The romantic Warner Bros. comedy is the best President’s Day Weekend opener ever, film analyst Paul Dergarabedian said.

Valentine’s Day wasn’t the only new release to score well at the box office.

Percy Jackson and The Olympians: The Lightning Thief made an estimated $31.1million at the box office, just pipping Benicio Del Toro’s The Wolfman ($30,627,0000) to the second spot.

Valentine’s Day star Ashton Kutcher has given his tips for the romantic day and said men should start celebrating as soon as they wake in the morning.

Kutcher, 32, will be spending February 14 with his wife Demi Moore, 47. They both recently attended the European premiere of the movie in London.

Talking to MTV about his tips for the big day, Kutcher said it’s best to get in there early.

He said: “By waiting until the end of the day, now you have to compete with what everyone else has done throughout the day.

“So if you hit it first thing in the morning, they’re all competing with you and you set the bar. Do not leave it hanging – at least plant the seed.”

Ashton Kutcher was joined by wife Demi Moore as they braced the cold British weather for the European premiere of the movie Valentine’s Day.

The 32-year-old actor was wrapped up in a thick coat and scarf as he graced the red carpet in London’s Leicester Square.

He was joined by co-stars such as Jessica Alba and Topher Grace as well as his wife Demi Moore, who battled the cold in a small black and white dress and no coat.

Alba also spent an hour with her fans outside in the cold temperatures before heading indoors to see the film.
