Ashley Jensen reveals she’s got new mum jitters Nativity actress Ashley Jensen has revealed that the responsibility of becoming a new mother has made her doubt herself at times.

The 40-year-old former Ugly Betty and Extras star, who is married to actor Terence Beesley, gave birth to son Francis, in October, and she said that she sometimes feels overwhelmed by motherhood.

She said: “Sometimes, I think, ‘I don’t know what I’m doing’. I’m so aware of the fact that everything I do is going to affect him.

“At the moment, I have a chesty cold and I’m worried he’ll catch it. But he probably has a strong immune system thanks to our dog, Barney. Whenever Frankie cries, Barney runs over and licks him on the head!”

She added: “Also, I now understand parents who have messy houses. It’s always been just me, Terry, and the dog, so the house was pretty neat.

“Now it’s chaos, with baby-grows and bits of half-eaten dinner everywhere. But they say it gets easier.”

Ashley Jensen has ‘real respect’ for women who give birth Accidentally On Purpose star Ashley Jensen has said she has a “real respect” for women after giving birth to her son.

Jensen, 40, recently gave birth to her first child, son Francis “Frankie” Jonathan, and she was only able to take a small amount of maternity leave because of the tight schedule for new show Accidentally On Purpose.

She said to UK newspaper The Independent: “I had a week off before he was born, three weeks off after he was born, and then I went back to work last week. But the studio is just 15 minutes away. I’ve got a dressing room so I can take my little boy in with me.”

Frankie is the first child for Jensen and her British actor hubby Terence Beesley and asked how she is finding motherhood, she said: “To be honest, I’m just stumbling from day to day at the moment. It’s all about routine, and it’s very all-consuming.”

She added: “One thing it has given me is a real respect for womankind. Giving birth is amazing, and such a great leveller.”

Former Ugly Betty star Ashley Jensen says TV bosses told her to ditch her fake US accent

Former Ugly Betty star Ashley Jensen has revealed TV bosses told her to ditch her fake US accent in favour of her natural Scottish voice.

The 40-year-old actress, who previously starred in Ricky Gervais' smash-hit show Extras, quit the US sitcom to star in a new show called Accidentally On Purpose but producers were desperate for her to keep her natural voice.

She said: "The two jobs that I've done, I've gone in and used an American accent.

"But they go, 'Do it in your own'. And then they go, 'It's funnier in that strange little accent that you have'.

"It adds colour to shows when there's another accent in there. I've lived with this accent all my life and I know the rhythms and pauses that make it funny."
