The British TV star, who has dined on delicacies such as bear poo and drunk his own urine, confessed he lies to “long-suffering” Shara about his meals.

“I get back and I don’t tell her what I’ve been eating, otherwise she’ll never kiss me again,” he told US chatshow host Jay Leno.

“Sometimes, she does watch stuff and she goes: ‘You’ve got to be joking. You put that in your mouth?’

“I’m sitting there thinking, ‘I’m never going to be allowed back into the marital bed.’”

Grylls, the star of Man vs Wild, said he deliberately avoids telling his wife about what he has been up to at work.

But he said occasionally some of his stomach-turning shows slip through the net.

“I try not to let her see these shows. I’ve learned that the hard way,” he told Leno.

“She kind of hoses me down when I arrive.”
