Sophie Okonedo to star in Doctor Who

Okonedo, 41, who recently played the role of Winnie Mandela in the BBC drama of the same name, will reportedly take on the role of Liz Ten.

A source said to UK newspaper The Sun: “Getting Sophie on board is a huge coup for the BBC. The forthcoming series has been criticised for being a bit light on the big names.

“But the feeling is, less is more. The new boss, Steven Moffat, wants his show to be more about the Doctor rather than famous supporting cast members.

“Besides, some fans thought the Kylie Minogue Christmas episode was a bit naff. It just goes to show that getting a big name on the show does not guarantee quality.”
