Matthew Broderick argues big name needed for Broadway

Read More ]"/> Actor Matthew Broderick drew attention to peculiar conditions in New York theatre, claiming only productions that had a big name attached seemed to be taking off.

Broderick has just finished a run in The Starry Messenger off-Broadway. He said: “It’s very peculiar right now. It seems that almost all shows need to have a big star in them. Right now, it seems to be a limited run with a big star in it or a musical that’s a brand name.”

Broderick’s wife, Sarah Jessica Parker, recently shot the sequel to the Sex And The City movie and moved her children to a brownstone in Brooklyn while Broderick stayed at their Greenwich Village residence to work.

Broderick was concerned Messenger might not make it to Broadway. “I don’t think we will. I guess people want a really sure bet when they spend money on a ticket,” he explained.

Broderick, Parker and their son recently welcomed twin girls by a surrogate mother.
