The actor was taken by police on Christmas Day morning after an emergency call by wife Brooke Mueller while the couple holidayed in Aspen, Colorado, with their twin babies.

It has been claimed both had been drinking at the time and that Mueller had since blamed her call on being drunk.

Sheen has twice been to rehab for drugs and alcohol and has been hospitalized for both. He has since spoken about not drinking anymore.

But Mueller’s mother, Florida socialite Moira Fiore, said they have not fallen off the wagon.

“Come on, man,” she told the Palm Beach Post. “It was Christmas eve. Of course, they’ll have a drink.”

Asked about the reason behind their falling out, she said: “They both like different things. They’ll come out of this just fine.”

She added: “I know they love each other very much!”

Although she refused to talk in detail about the incident in the interview, she is said to have told friends her daughter’s neck was ‘definitely red’, according to the paper.

A close friend of Mueller reportedly added: “It’s been a really bad time.”

But the source added there is not going to be a divorce, despite rumours to the contrary.

“They’re working things out,” the friend said.
