The proud working-class funnyman made it clear during an interview that he has a hard-time dealing with wealth. He complained about his show saw him earning “paid a million times a nurse’s wages”. And he insists that making good money from the show destroyed some of the joy he felt for having made it.“When I did The Office, I was so proud,” he said. “Then the cheque came in and it ruined it a bit, because I didn’t want people to think that was mixed in with my pride.”“I am not proud of being rich,” he insisted.“There’s nothing wrong with being rich but there’s nothing to be proud of. I was lucky. Why am I paid a million times a nurse’s wages? Because I came up with a formula that sold?“There are people who work as hard as me and they haven’t got that because they don’t do what I do. They don’t do showbusiness – they build walls.”He owns a $6 million house in London and moved into a top New York apartment. He gets paid for remakes of The Office around the world, including $50,000 for each episode of the American version. He admits he still feels uncomfortable with some of the people his newfound fame and wealth put him in contact with.“I still feel it a little bit sometimes if I am with very, very, over-privileged people,” he said.“I still think they are waiting for me to make a faux pas, to pick up the wrong fork.“I don’t mind – I quite like it, because I’m not going to pick up the wrong fork.”source: Splash News
