Randy Quaid, Evi, plead not guilty to fraud charges

Read More ]"/> Randy Quaid and his wife, Evi, pleaded not guilty to felony fraud charges at a Santa Barbara Superior Court.

The Quaids were taken into custody in Texas earlier after failing to show up for their court dates.

But Santa Barbara Detective Rod Forney indicated their case could change. He said: “A lot of things can happen between now and then. It could be dropped to a misdemeanour or there could be some kind of plea.”

But the Quaids could also face a jury trial if things go the other way. They were arrested in Marfa, Texas, on September 24 for allegedly running out on a hotel bill at the exclusive San Ysidro Ranch in Santa Barbara, California.

They were each issued $40,000 in bail and have been ordered back to court on March 1, 2010.

The pair has maintained the matter is a misunderstanding. Their attorney, Rod Ponton, said: “They were never on the run from the law. There’s a lot of misinformation out there about this. It’s much ado about nothing.”
