Morrissey slammed for suicide comments

Read More ]"/> Singer Morrissey has been slammed by a UK mental-health charity for glorifying the act of suicide.

The chief executive of UK organisation SANE, Marjorie Wallace, said: “Anything which glorifies something as terrible as self-harm is of great concern… It’s a great pity that someone as famous as Morrissey should make self-harm and suicide seem heroic.”

Morrissey, 50, said in a UK radio interview last week: “I’m fascinated by the brevity of life because we all know the axe will fall – with that fact at the forefront of everyone’s mind in all we do, I find it fascinating how people spend their time… Everybody dies screaming, they don’t die laughing as far as I know.”

The singer, who recently collapsed on a stage in Swindon, UK, and spent the night in hospital before resuming his concert engagements, revealed that he had contemplated suicide in the past.

He said: “I think this self-destruction is honourable. I always thought it was. It’s an act of great control and I understand people who do it.”
