Read More ]"/> Prison Break star Lane Garrison is take on a new project about troubled teens and using football as redemption.

The 29-year-old is best known for his role as David ‘Tweener’ Apolskis in the US TV show.

He was released from prison earlier this year after he was convicted of vehicular manslaughter.

Garrison is now writing the screenplay for One Heart, which tells the true story of a football team from the Gainesville (Texas) State School that is made up of kids that have been convicted of crimes including drugs, violence and robbery.

After Garrison was released from prison in April, he found out about the story of the team from friends.

He said: “I was moved to tears, because I knew who those kids were – I was one of them.

“I knew what it was like to be locked away and feel hopelessness and feel like: ‘Will I ever have another redeeming quality? Will I have a second chance?’”

He added: “To me, it was like: ‘Here was this project for you to write – you are supposed to tell this story because you lived it.’”

I hope the script and any followup film provide both a realistic AND uplifting story. Too often, “troubled teen flicks” reach for phony, shallow solutions instead of providing an honest look at the challenges their situations present.
