The movie is the sixth in the series of the popular franchise, which is based on the books by British author JK Rowling.

Figures show that 840,000 copies of the flick, which stars Daniel Radcliffe, Rupert Grint and Emma Watson, were sold in just a few hours.

John Stanley from Warner Home Video has said he is “delighted by the extraordinary first day sales performance”.

The movie did not manage to break the first-day sales record that was set last year by Mamma Mia! – that film sold 1,669,084 copies.
