Fox in talks to go ahead with Idol – with Cowell or not

Read More ]"/> The Fox network is in talks to extend its top-rating series, American Idol, with or without its star, Simon Cowell.

Cowell’s brother, Tony, let slip on his weekly podcast that his famous brother was thinking of calling it a day on Idol. Cowell has made millions on reality TV and was recently named the top US earner in television.

Cowell’s contract with 19 Entertainment and FremantleMedia, the producer of Idol, runs to the end of 2011. He is currently rumoured to be bringing Sony-owned The X Factor to Las Vegas in a daring television-internet venture with UK Topshop boss Sir Philip Green.

The new deal under discussion is for three seasons and was reported in the trade daily Hollywood Reporter. A smaller role for Cowell might be one compromise under negotiation, the paper hinted.
