Festival doffs its hat to Helen Mirren

Read More ]"/> Dame Helen Mirren will be feted at the annual Palm Springs International Film Festival.

The 64-year-old actress will be on hand to receive a career achievement award at the January 5 event held in the Californian desert resort of Palm Springs.

Mirren won an Oscar in 2006 for her performance as Elizabeth II in The Queen. Lately she has been working on The Last Station, a period movie about Leo Tolstoy co-starring the Last King of Scotland’s James McAvoy.

Mirren will be joined in Palm Springs by Mariah Carey, who will represent the movie Precious, a harrowing tale of abuse. Others to be honoured include Morgan Freeman and Anna Kendrick.
