Ellen DeGeneres in new Female Force comic-book bio

Read More ]"/> Talk show host Ellen DeGeneres has become the latest female celebrity to have a comic book published about her life.

The 51-year-old comedienne follows in the footsteps of Princess Diana, JK Rowling, Oprah Winfrey and US First Lady Michelle Obama to have a Female Force comic book written about her.

Darren Davis, president of Bluewater, the company behind the comic-book series, said: “People forget what a groundbreaking talent she is and that fame did not come overnight.

“But through all her highs and lows, she managed to stay true to herself and prove that she is a female force.”

DeGeneres is currently riding high on a wave of popularity with her hit daytime chat show and her new role as a judge on American Idol.

But 12 years ago, her career hit a low point after she revealed she was gay on an episode of her sitcom, Ellen, which led to the show being cancelled.

But DeGeneres, who is married to actress Portia de Rossi, clawed her way back to primetime TV after hosting the Emmy Awards in 2001 and 2005, and the Oscars in 2006.

The comic book – which goes on sale in March 2010 – also looks at the comedienne’s role as a gay rights advocate.

Author Sandra C Ruckdeschel said: “It is part of who she is.

“And any telling of her story without acknowledging the importance she places on her identity would be disrespectful to her accomplishments.”
