Cowell demands £3m more for X-Factor

Read More ]"/> Simon Cowell is using the expected windfall of viewers for this weekend’s The X Factor to bolster an attempt for more money to be spent on the show.

The star judge of two continents’ worth of reality talent shows and top earner on US TV is seeking an additional £3 million from ITV, according to a UK report.

Cowell, who has agreed to appear on 2010’s Britain’s Got Talent, is reported to be still negotiating his own £7.5 million salary from ITV. He is said to be refusing to sign-on for another series unless ITV agrees to his demand to make the show “even better”.

At the same time, he said it was difficult to even say whether The X-Factor would return next year. He said: “We’re negotiating with the network and it’s not about salaries for the people on it – it’s how much money are you going to invest over a period of time.”

Cowell is reported to want another £300,000 spent on each of the 10 shows for the next series. ITV spends £1.7 million each weekend on the two shows.

Cowell is also said to want Cheryl Cole, 26, to return to The X-Factor, while admitting she will need to be offered more than her current £1.2 million. Last night Cole said she will take a few months to think about next year.
