Abdul thinks of Cowell as ‘bully brother’

Read More ]"/> After taking a breather to regroup and work out on the dance floor, Paula Abdul, 47, spoke of her experiences over eight years of judging American Idol.

She told OK! magazine, “I am a big fan of the show. You can lift up a rock and find a gem. These kids would never have a chance to be seen. It’s the greatest show on television all around the world.”

Abdul said co-judge Kara DioGuardi and her go way back. After meeting DioGuardi, she took her under her wing in LA. She moved her into her house and introduced her to top songwriters.

She recalled of their time as roommates and collaborators:”In the first few days of knowing each other, Kara and I wrote one of the biggest hits ever and gave it to Kylie Minogue [Spinning Around]. She entered for the first time in the UK charts at No. 1 and went No. 1 throughout all the territories of Europe. We have a great history, and it bothers Simon [Cowell] no end.”

But while acknowledging Cowell’s sharp tongue, she regards him fondly. “He’s the bully brother! He’s annoying sometimes. You have to reel him in. ‘Come on back, Simon. Come on back.’ It’s great because Kara finally sees what it’s like for me in my own private hell. She gets it now.”
