The 17-year-old video leapt in the air, caught a pole above his head and performed a string of kicks in a video shown on Conan O’ Brien’s US chat show.

“I started martial arts when I was about six and I did it for about eight years,” he explained. “That was my thing when I was younger.

“That is extreme martial arts. I haven’t quite tested it out on a person yet.”

Lautner plays Jacob Black in hit vampire film Twilight – adapted from a series of books by Stephenie Meyer.

The sequel, New Moon, broke box office records when it opened last week.
