Tom Cruise in crisis over Scientology claims

Tom Cruise has been plunged into a crisis by the claims of defectors from the Church Of Scientology, an Australian women’s magazine claims.

Cruise has been hit with further reports of bizarre behaviour stemming from the revelations of several defectors from Scientology and that his marriage is suffering, Woman’s Day claims.

His wife, Katie Holmes, is said to be seeking the increasing support of her parents, while she reels from the attacks on her husband’s image. The pair were recently reported to be at serious odds over where to send daughter Suri, 3, to pre-school, with Holmes winning out with the choice of a Catholic preschool.

The defector allegations include violence and ludicrous rituals, the magazine says. Among the defectors is Marc Headley, the author of a new book titled Blown For Good: Behind The Iron Curtain Of Scientology, which alleges Cruise yelled at books, bottles and doorknobs during training. Church members were allegedly made to watch propaganda and Cruise is a quasi-religious figurehead within Scientology.

But the revelation that disobedient members were allegedly beaten at a facility known as The Hole is a damning one. In addition, records are allegedly kept of member confessions and high-ranking members allegedly interviewed actresses to be Cruise’s girlfriend after he broke with Penelope Cruz.

A former Scientology member argued that the defector comments were a sign that the religion was not full of fanatics. Jeff Hawkins, a defector, said: “When you have dozens of people speaking out, it’s no longer credible to say they are all malcontents and criminals.”
