Wearing her signature khaki and with their two children Bindi and Robert by her side, US-born Terri Irwin affirmed her allegiance to Australia and was granted citizenship of her adopted homeland and presented with a framed engraved certificate.

Terri took out the citizenship to honour The Crocodile Hunter star, who was tragically killed aged 44, on 4 September 2006, after being stung by a stingray during a diving expedition off the Australian coast.

The ceremony before 5,000 people took place on Steve Irwin Day at Australia Zoo.
