In legal documents filed at a Los Angeles court on Monday, the US Internal Revenue Service (IRS) claims that the brother of Backstreet Boy Nick Carter owes $1,010,635.08 in back taxes.

The former teen heart-throb, 21, who last week was voted off the US TV show Dancing With The Stars, has a history of legal problems, according to reports.

In December 2003, Carter, who has had high-profile relationships with actresses Hilary Duff and Lindsay Lohan, filed for legal emancipation from his mother, alleging that she had taken more than $100,000 from his bank account without his permission.

Carter later mentioned in a US TV interview that he was missing sums amounting to $6,400,000.

But mother and son reportedly resolved their differences the following January, and Carter withdrew his claims.
