Serena Williams hit with record fine for US Open outburst

Read More ]"/> Tennis star Serena Williams will have to put her money where her mouth is – after being hit with a record fine for screaming abuse at a US Open lineswoman.

Williams let rip with her astonishing outburst during a semi-final encounter earlier this year, which ended up costing her the match.

Now the International Tennis Federation’s Grand Slam committee has decided that she will have to pay a record £50,000 for the outburst and could even be banned from the tournament.

She has also been placed on an unprecedented two-year probation for the tour’s next four Grand Slam events.

It means that if she blasts off again she could be barred from the next US Open and her fine could double.

The tennis champ lost her cool in a match against Kim Clijsters in September, reportedly threatening the line judge after she called a foot foul against her.

She was docked a point, which ended up giving Clijsters the match.
