He earlier said he took a leaf out of Simon Cowell’s book after the star judge – and top earner on US television – told him to get some fillers put into his face.

The effect was evident in photos that surfaced which showed Ramsay looking fairly pleased with himself. The master chef said: “My mother said they were smile lines. I could deal with that at 21, but not at 42.”

Ramsay’s procedure makes him look younger but his lines remain evident. He explained: “Simon Cowell suggested that now I’m a success in America, I should do something, so I had a filler put under the deep crevices. It hurt.”

The move is in line with some unwanted advice the chef gave to an Australian TV host whose facial mole he publicly noted.

But it was an about face from his earlier stance on the topic. Ramsay’s spokesperson had once said: “Gordon would be the first person to mercilessly take the piss out of anyone that has had surgery.”
