Sir Paul McCartney has admitted The Beatles "weren't that good" when they first formed.

The rocker said he wasn’t surprised that it took a while for the Fab Four to land a record deal.

And he said they had to hone their sound in the early sixties before they were able to attract a following.

He told a UK radio station: "We obviously weren't that good. We were formulating it all. You wouldn't have thought we were that great. You'd have turned us down if you were a record company. And they did – Decca turned us down.”

Label Decca initially snubbed the band before producer George Martin signed them to EMI’s Parlophone label.
