The veteran director will receive the Cecil B. DeMille award in recognition of his lifetime achievement at the upcoming 67th annual Golden Globe Awards show in Los Angeles.

Scorsese, whose movies include Taxi Driver, Gangs Of New York, Cape Fear and Raging Bull, will be honoured for his “outstanding contribution to the entertainment field”, said the Hollywood Foreign Press Association.

The prestigious Golden Globes show will be presided over by comedian Ricky Gervais (pictured) and broadcast live on January 17 from The Beverly Hilton on NBC. Its awards are often viewed as a bellwether of the Academy Awards.
