Singer Mariah Carey turned up fashionably late to turn on the Christmas lights at a shopping centre in London.

The 39-year-old star kept fans waiting almost an hour at Westfield shopping centre in north London after she reportedly enjoyed several glasses of champagne with husband Nick Cannon at the Dorchester Hotel three miles away.

Hundreds of fans gathered to see the star at the centre’s Southern Terrace, which had been lit up with pink lights at Carey’s request.

As she stepped out of her car, pink and white confetti butterflies were scattered across the crowd.

Carey disappeared for 15 minutes to rearrange her hair and make-up before coming back outside to the crowd and saying: “Thank you so much for coming. I love you all.”
