The American Idol star took to her Twitter page to reveal she was struck with acute appendicitis and had it removed.

She later posted a photo of herself on a hospital bed clutching her stuffed animal toys and wrote: “Smiling, resting and takin it easy!”

About two hours before, she tweeted: “Feeling a little better but very sore. Thank you so much for your thoughts and prayers. It means so much and it’s so powerful. ”

The 19-year-old won the sixth season of American Idol in 2007.

Among her well-wishers was fellow Idol star, David Archuleta, who wrote: “Oh man sorry to hear about that!

“I had appendicitis and had to get my appendix out a few years ago. Hope you feel better!”
