Jedward booted off X Factor

The Irish twins’ rendition of Boyzone’s No Matter What was lacklustre and lost out to Wonderful Tonight performed by Olly Murs. Dannii Minogue cast the deciding vote on Jedward, saying: “I’m going to have to judge it as I’ve judged it the whole time. On the premise that it’s a singing competition, I will have to send home John and Edward.”

The twins’ rendition of the Britney Spears hit Oops, I Did It Again was delivered by the red-suited twins, who spun some nifty dance moves but whose vocals were as flat as melted tyres.

Minogue, sporting a new lush bob, said: “I have to say honestly, vocally, it’s not right but it’s okay. The double divas from Dublin. I wish Louis was here with you. The good news is it’s entertaining, it’s fun, it makes Cheryl laugh.”

Cheryl Cole, said: “I have to say when it comes to a Saturday night, the act I’m most looking forward to is you two. Whether it’s right or wrong you are thoroughly entertaining and I hope you stay in it.”

The twins were without their mentor Louis Walsh. Simon Cowell gave the judgement: “Well my initial reaction was, What the bloody hell was that?

“Guys – arguably – no not arguably, the worst live performance I’ve ever sat through in all these years of doing the show. In the same way I reacted to the first time I watched The X Factor, I didn’t like it but I wanted to watch it again.”

In a final verdict, Cowell, whose support for Jedward was latent, said: “I do actually like you now as people because you are living on another planet, somewhere else entirely, but sort of entertaining in a weird way.”

Peaches Geldof reacted on Twitter: “Jedward are out. I am now going to take a week out for mourning. I am in shock. It may be the end, but we witnessed something truly beautiful. The end of an era. But their legacy lives on in the hearts of millions, always and forever united in our battle cry of JED WE CAN!”
