Grace Jackman left her family when he was eight, making his father the sole parent of five children – of whom the international star was the youngest.

It was later revealed that she was suffering post-natal depression that was not diagnosed at the time. She ended up raising Jackman’s sisters, Zoe and Sonia, in England, while Jackman was raised by his dad in Australia with brothers Ian and Ralph.

Jackman said: “My mother was not well. I always hoped she would come back, but I never blamed her for anything that went wrong. At the time, I was miserable and angry, and my brothers and I used to fight all the time.”

The pair were seen on the streets of New York with Jackman’s daughter, Ava. A friend said: “Grace has been helping Hugh with the kids while Deborra-Lee (Furness) is in Australia for Adoption Awareness Week.”
