Oscar-winning actress Goldie Hawn recently took a weekend trip to Varanasi in India.

The 63-year-old reportedly visited the place that Hindus call the most sacred spot on Earth.

It is claimed she went around the wharfs (ghats) and took pictures and wrote notes and watched a Hindu ceremony (Ganga arti) from a boat.

She also reportedly took time out to visit an ashram where she offered flowers to the portrait of a late guru, whom she first met in 1982 and who gave her lessons in astrology and spirituality.

Acclaimed Hindu statesman Rajan Zed welcomed Hawn and other celebrities to Varanasi and said in a statement that Hollywood stars should become familiar with the basics of world religions.

He said that by doing so, it would help them to understand their audiences better.
