“Andrew has been readmitted to hospital tonight following his operation for prostate cancer,” said a statement posted on his website.

“He has been advised that while the operation was entirely successful, he has developed a post-operative ‘chronic infection’ which needs immediate treatment.”

The British composer, 61, repeated an earlier promise to be back working soon. “He still hopes to back at work in the New Year,” the statement said.
