British composer Andrew Lloyd Webber has been diagnosed with prostate cancer.

Lloyd Webber, 61, has reportedly been keeping the diagnosis a tight secret for weeks.

But when reports surfaced in the media, he said: "The show will go on."

Lloyd Webber is the genius behind many hit West End musicals, including Jesus Christ Superstar, Cats, The Phantom Of The Opera, Evita, and Starlight Express.

Lloyd Webber has been admitted to an undisclosed private hospital to start his treatment, and is said to be confident that he will make an early return to his West End schedule, according to reports.

"Andrew's condition is in its very early stages. He is now undergoing treatment and expects to be fully back at work before the end of the year," his spokesperson said.

He is due to launch Love Never Dies, the sequel to The Phantom Of The Opera, and a BBC TV series.
