The Informant star Matt Damon has donated $2 million through his Water.org site to help people in Haiti.

Matt, 38, announced on September 22 at the launch of the 2009 Clinton Global Initiative that his non-profit group would be helping to provide clean water and sanitation to 50,000 people in Haiti.

Damon is quoted as saying by Tonic.com: "Water.org will deliver at least $2 million to fund this commitment."

The project is called Safe Water and Sanitation For the People of Haiti, but has been called Haiti Challenge as a nickname.

The group's initiative will also be funded by the EKTA Foundation, whose purpose is world solidarity. The public will also be able to donate money through the Water.org's Haiti Challenge site.

Damon, who was addressing world leaders, said: "We want to challenge everyone here in this room tonight to support this commitment to the people of Haiti by visiting Water.org."
