Roman Polanski arrested over sex abuse case

Movie director Roman Polanski has been arrested by Swiss police over a sex abuse case 30 years ago.

The 76 year-old was arrested after he flew in for the Zurich Film Festival to receive an honorary award. He now faces possible extradition to the US.

Swiss Justice Ministry spokesman Guido Balmer confirmed: "There was a valid arrest request and we knew when he was coming. That's why he was taken into custody."

Polanski fled America for France in 1978, a year after pleading guilty to unlawful sexual intercourse with a 13-year-old girl.
